From what I have experienced, the Nokia X6 which shows as Totoro is a converted unit, but flashed with a custom firmware. That is the reason why it does not receive software updates.
So, if you unlock the bootloader, then you can install the official WW firmware which will receive OTA updates. I can confirm that it will even receive the Android Pie update.
Here's a roadmap:
Unlock the bootloader - All Totoro devices that I have seen run the July security patch. So, unlocking the bootloader will be an easy task by using the unlock key. You can buy the key here.
Download the WW ROM & flash it - With an unlocked bootloader, you can flash the phone yourself. So, use OST 6.0.4 to flash the official WW ROM. Do not use OST 6.1.2 as it will not work.
Wipe data/factory reset - After installing the WW firmware, you need to do a factory reset from the recovery mode. This is needed to wipe all data from the device, which can sometimes prevent the phone from booting up.
Let me know how that goes :)
This is only for the 4GB RAM variant. The 6GB variant cannot flash this ROM.
Hi @singhnsk , well basically after 1 month from when I bought the phone and exactly when I upgrade the Android to Oreo 8.0, I noticed that the wifi switcher stopped responding, so I was like should I downgrade or something? and I wasn't aware of the fact that it was just an upgrade issue, since it didn't come right away, so I started diving into the Nokia 8 flashing forum and read about the tools provided at that moment and I happened to use the OST tool, at first I've downgrade to 7.0 then try to upgrade to 8.0 but with no success, the same issue still causing errors, and that alone starts to frustrating me since being able to connect to the internet is something I cannot just close my eye on, so I happened to find a thread about a new OTA zip, I'm not sure if it was the June patch or the August one, all I remember is that once I tried to flash it using the traditional recovery mode it stops working, and then after awhile of butchering the phone and trying different versions of nb0 using OST tool v6.0.4 and v6.1.2, I have officially brook my phone and right the only thing I see over and over is the download mode screen with the "POWERED BY android" in the center, right know it will hit approximately 4 months, so I started loosing interest in fixing until I got the fastboot working again by accident, and I'm hopping I can fix my phone by your help!
I've installed the Global 8.1 using the instructions provided in this post first and then downloading another image from here and side loading it (I think it was 'Rollback WW 2.13B Android 8.1 April 2018').
I personally did not unlock the bootloader, but the retailer I bought the phone from says they have 'root & flash to global Version' although when I got the phone the default language (for example notifications) were in Chinese, and the device showed CN in the build.
With the Google Services - whether I try to open the Play Store or login to a Google Cloud account it just gets stuck on 'Checking info...' and sometimes says there's a problem connecting (the internet connection is working fine since I can browse the web without a problem). I also looked at some logs using some tip I've found here and the logs show a connection error, something like 'unable to connect'
Given all the details above, and the information you've mentioned:
In your opinion should Google Services be working without a problem in this case?
What would you recommend trying next?
Is there a way to verify whether the phone is unlocked/rooted?
How do I check what's the current phone SKUID?
@aks The only thing I can probably say in this regards is to try and flash the stock (factory) software using OST. For it to work, you will need to unlock the bootloader. If that does not solve it, it would be a likely hardware issue with the modem.
Yes, Harinder it is all glass at the back. The Nokia 7 announced for China comes in 2 colors - black and white. The black color has a glossy black finish on the back glass. Whereas the white color comes with a matte finish of the color.
We might see other color variations of the Nokia 7 if it comes to other markets.
Hi Dixit, the back is certainly made out of glass. However, the phone does not come with the support for wireless charging. At least, the version announced for China does not come with it.
There are other smartphones too which come with all glass back and still don't have wireless charging embedded, so it is not that Nokia 7 is the only glass back smartphone without wireless charging.
That said, I am with you when it comes to using glass without making any good use of it. They could have gone with the same aluminum back as in other Nokia smartphones. That would make them more durable.
The Nokia 7 seems to resemble the leaked images of Nokia 9. So, it is possible that HMD Global wants to make its new phones look more like the upcoming flagship and hence went with using an all-glass back. It certainly looks beautiful, but durability is a big concern.
I too am awaiting the new phones from HMD and Nokia. But after using OnePlus smartphones for over 2 years now, the choice will trickle down to what Nokia offers and what price point it targets.
Now since Nokia's service centers, retail partners and supply chain is mostly gone, I expect them to price their products more aggressively. If this will be another round of earning excess money out of brand value without actually adding anything amazing, I'll just settle for the next OnePlus smartphone again.
Pricing of Nokia 6 is kinda already on a higher side considering that they are still with a 4xx series processor (SOC). Hopefully the upcoming devices will provide better power and price ratio!
I have received JIO sim But i was not able to use calling as well as data services. I raised multiple request through jio app, but there was no response. I also raised a request through call customer care but every time a get a same answer your service will be resolved in 48 hrs, now they are saying that my retailer have activated LYF service on my phone so issue can’t be resolved at their end.
No buddy, this is entirely misleading and nothing short of a hoax.
Reliance Jio will not (in fact it cannot) block your SIM slot. You will always be free to use SIM card from any operator on your smartphone after the free welcome offer expires on 31 December.
Please don't fall prey to hoaxes like these and also spread the message to your friends who might be in a similar confusion.
@sarthak-nahar With the partner devices, you need to actually download at-least the 3 main jio apps, better if you download them all and remove them later. Then you'll get the popup to avail the unlimited offer (before or after signing up to MyJio app) and you need to avail that in order to get your benefits.
